Marshall Steam Station

Managed teams of both in house and contract resources for day-to-day operation and maintenance of a 2200MW coal generation facility. Also managed budget for base and outage contractor spend. Managed staff of exempt personnel supporting the Carolina Coal generation fleet (10000MWs). Provided technical support of operating systems (mechanical, civil, chemical, electrical, controls, and NERC compliance), outage support (CPM scheduling, budget controls and forecasting, outage coordination and communication), and project management (capital improvements and O&M replacements). Additionally, the 5-year fleet capital budget was managed and updated annually.

Generation Maintenance Services

Manage ten professional personnel in the Generation Maintenance Service areas of Air Quality Control System and Water Chemistry. Provided support to Duke Energy Generating fleet in a safety first responsible manner. Distributed SME knowledge and experience to stations through regular communications of Prime Mover Meetings, User Group Meetings, and EPRI communications and routine troubleshooting of equipment malfunction. Supported start-up and commissioning efforts of new Air Quality Control Systems. Maintained fleet wide Water Chemistry practices. Assisted generation fleet in evaluating AQCS performance, short term and long term plans through Equipment Inspection Teams Process.

Marshall Steam Station

Filled equipment ownership responsibilities for Combustion Engineer and NOx Single Point of Contact for Marshall Steam Station. Supported capital project installations of SNCRs on four units and urea infrastructure for meeting emission requirements for North Carolina Clean Air Plan. Became station expert on boiler combustion and NOx optimization. Supported major projects on boiler equipment such air preheater basket upgrades, combustion air damper replacements, burner replacements, safety valve and spray valve replacements, and boiler chemical cleanings. I was promoted to Supervising Engineer in 10/2005.

Mecklenburg Cogeneration Facility

Managed production team (22 craft and supervisory personnel) by setting goals, tracking performance, and providing feedback. Developed facility business plan including business objectives, a two-year zero based O&M budget, capital budget, and 25-year plan. Worked with client and plant manager to develop and implement an employee incentive program. Tracked facility performance and reported O&M financial status routinely. Interfaced to external clients regarding power purchase contracts, operating agreement, and steam contract. Participated in legislative lobbying committee - VIPP. Maintained community contacts and public relations. Implemented recommendations by environmental, health and safety audit. Provided engineering support to upgrade equipment and reporting procedures to comply with Title V air permitting. Substituted for plant manager in his absence. Provided on call duties. Fire brigade, first aid, and CPR and respirator certified.
