I am embarking on a new and exciting assignment. I am now assigned to provide assistance to the IESO's Market Renewal Program as the subject matter expert on Emerging Technologies. My role is to work within many of the design streams constituting the Market Renewal Program from the perspective of what those designs may mean for emerging technologies and their future participation in IESO-administered markets. I also expect to be providing other tasks across the broader spectrum of market renewal as I have extensive experience in the subject within the context of Ontario due to my work within the Ministry of Energy on Electricity Restructuring in the 1990's and also almost a decade's worth of IESO market design/market rules work within the first years of the Ontario electricity market. I will retain, however, an active watch on what my home position is doing, Operations Innovations, as those activities and market renewal activities are closely related.

If one stays in a sector long enough you can often find yourself back where you started and in my case it happens to be a good thing. The impact of the IESO's Market Renewal Program on the construction of the Market Rules is significant. When the opportunity presented itself for me to assist by leveraging my Market Rules knowledge from the first 9 years of the IESO Administered Markets (and rules and laws fashioned pre-market opening) I was only too happy to join a vital and robust Market Rules team. My key focus is on the pending crafting of a number of market rules packages necessary to support the vision of Market Renewal as expressed in the various detailed design documents that will be fashioned and finalized in the next year or so. I vividly recall the tension and creative pressures associated with getting the market rules ready for the initial opening of the market on May 1, 2002 and now we are on the cusp of similar work as we collectively create what I would call Market 2.0 in Ontario. I am looking forward to it.

After a very interesting stint in Market Renewal and Market Rules I am returning to my home position which is as a Senior Specialist Operations Integration within the Advanced Technology Research department of the Innovation, Research, and Development Division. I have some familiarity with the territory having been in on the ground floor of the Alternative Technologies for Regulation and Grid Energy Storage Phase 1 programs at the IESO as well as having experience in ancillary service agreements. Initially I shall be helping out with the Grid Innovation Fund. There are a lot of very interesting things going on within this Division and I am excited to be back learning more about integrating new technologies and resources into the IESO-administered markets and the electricity system in Ontario.

• Extensive experience in contract negotiation and administration of ancillary service product agreements, including regulation, reactive support and voltage control, black start, and reliability must-run agreements• Involved in the assessment of the performance of alternative sources of regulation service (flywheel/battery/load aggregation) to discern the viability of these resources in assisting in the maintenance of a reliable electricity grid in Ontario• Working on the integration of twelve grid energy storage facilities into the IESO-administered markets (flywheel/battery/power to gas (hydrogen), and thermal storage) for the provision of ancillary and bulk energy services (ramping, SBG management, flexible product resources)• Building and managing working relationships with local distribution companies through grid energy storage projects• Initial interaction with micro-grid, EV charging stations and virtual power plant projects• 2014 IESO Employee Recognition Award for Grid Energy Storage Procurement• 2013 IESO Employee Recognition Award for Alternative Sources of Regulation Initiative

I worked in the market development group at the company and specifically I wrote business (contract) law starting in 2001 in regards to the physical operation of the provincial electricity system in Ontario and the subsequent monthly settlement of approximately $1 billion worth of electricity contracts. As a result of this experience I have extensive working knowledge of the market rules in Ontario.

Electricity restructuring and market design. I was part of the originating Electricity Restructuring office in Ontario, and was an active participant in the crafting of the Electricity Restructuring Act, 1999.(1995 - 1999)Oil, gas, and electricity policy analyst. (1991 - 1995) Crafted briefing notes for Minister of Energy on energy issues of the day.

Managed solid waste landfill, established household hazardous waste collection, developed waste transfer station to prevent illegal dumping of waste, created home composter program, and expanded leaf composting facility
