John C Brittingham, AIA NCARB is a registered architect and full professor of architecture. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College in 1979, a teaching fellowship from Bowdoin College in 1980, an internship with Peter Eisenman at the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in 1981, and a Masters in Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University in 1987. John has practiced architecture in Boston for three years with Sasaki Associates and Machado-Silvetti Associates for two years. He was a senior designer and project manager for Antoine Predock Architect, FAIA in New Mexico and Los Angeles for five years and has an additional thirty years of professional experience in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Texas.Professor Brittingham's work has been widely recognized and published in five international design competitions and includes original research on Richard Neutra's Helburn House in Bozeman, Montana. This work has been published in Architectural Digest and exhibited at the Chicago Architecture Foundation. He has spent the ten years working in collaboration with Yellowstone National Park developing a new paradigm for approaching design work in the park system which was hailed in Washington DC. This work resulted in 5 books being collected by five of the best recognized libraries in the US. In addition, he has produced with his students award winning work for The Kohala Center on the Big Island of Hawaii, and Grand Canyon National Park, the Woodlawn community on the south-side of Chicago, the Chinati Foundation, and the Center for the Arts in Jackson, Wyoming. He is currently working on a masterplan for Center for Contemporary Art, Military Museum and Children's Art Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico.Brittingham has taught at the University of New Mexico, the University of Texas at Austin, The University of Arizona, and has spent twenty-five years teaching at Montana State University's School of Architecture. While at MSU he has directed the graduate program for five years and co-directed the School for two years. He has been the recipient of the President's Excellence in Teaching Award and the Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship.John now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is currently restoring Alexander Girard's home | studio and is on the Board of Directors of Santa Fe's Center for Contemporary Art.
