You must be allowed to fail in order to succeed. Currently, I am a Mentor in the Patient Immersion program for first and second year Doctors in training supplying them with a patients perspective at the University of Alberta. I am also a mentor with the International Association of Wildland Fire program and have acted as a mentor and Instructor at the Canadian Fire Behavior Specialist National Level training course. I have an ability to decipher complex subject matter and simplify it into laymen's terms that most people can understand. I have a passion for all things wildfire related and am currently writing a book on wildfire fire line story's as well as creating a paper challenging the way we "manage" wildfire on the landscape today. Once a Wildfire Behavior Specialist, always a Wildfire Behavior Specialist. I am a self published author of my cancer survivor book "My Three Belly Buttons" and am a avid cancer advocate. I believe that I have been given the chance to carry on and will advocate all things geared towards quality of life, survival and research to a cure for cancer. I give back through speaking engagements or participating in cancer forums looking for solutions and improvement. As a father of three I want nothing more then to see my children happy, healthy and succeeding in reaching their dreams, that said they have grown into a trio that I can be proud of.

Integrated Land Management SpecialistAlberta Environment And Sustainable Resource Development May 2013 - Oct 2021Edmonton, AlbertaCurrently, I am an Integrated Land Management Specialist (PS4) working for the Resource Integration Planning Branch, Policy and Planning Division of Environment and Parks in Edmonton. I am a participant in a number of cross ministry planning and policy initiatives such as the Integrated Land Management Implementation Planning Team and the Provincial Land Reservation Program Review Team. My main duties consist of reviewing existing land management policy and plans to ensure relevance, consistency and alignment with updated legislation and departmental direction. An example of this is the detailed review of all the Integrated Resource Plans of Alberta. The majority of these plans are thirty years old and still direct current land management practices and policy within Alberta. Our goal is to ensure that the direction and intent within these plans aligns with, and is relevant to, the newly developed higher level Regional Plans such as the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan (LARP) as required by the Alberta Land Stewardship Act as well as standard current best business practices of today. This will result in the elimination of policy duplication and mixed messages while providing a consistent land management message to proponents and regulators within Alberta into the foreseen future.
