Lead mechanical engineer in the development of piezo-ceramic actuators as replacements for solenoids and other electromagnetic actuators. The primary application of this technology is as valve actuators.

Responsible for the development of fluid filtration systems for aerospace service. Systems included filters, differential pressure indicators, valves, accumulators, hydraulic reservoirs, pressure switches and transducers, temperature switches, and desiccant dehydrators. Fluids included air, hydraulic fluid, lube oil, fuel and coolant fluids. Programs included the 747-400, A340, B-2, C-5, F-18, F-22, JSF-X, CH46 & 47, B609, and RAH-66. Projects were for new development and 2nd sourcing. Worked through RFI, X-program, EMD and production program phases.

Responsible for the development of valves and electro-mechanical instrumentation for industrial process control. Components developed included valves, diaphragm actuators, pneumatic positioners, transducers, and other electromechanical instrumentation. Assemblies were laid out with the McAuto CAD package and given to mechanical draftsmen and PC designers under my supervision for development of product drawings. Managed product development from receipt of design specifications from the product manager through delivery of product to the customer. Performed value engineering to reduce product cost. In one program, I was able to recover the cost of investment cast tooling with the cost savings from the first 17 pieces.

Responsible for the development of process control loops for control of liquid level, temperature, humidity, salinity, flow, and pressure regulation within systems of nuclear powered submarines. Duties also included advance technology studies and prototype development programs. In this position I worked with systems engineering to develop component specifications. I then worked with procurement to locate and develop equipment suppliers to provide product to the specifications. During this process I became an expert of the product. I managed product development by working with the suppliers, witnessing qualification testing both at the product vendor and at military test facilities, and was involved in product installation and test on board ship. After developing this expertise, I was involved in developing product specifications for components that were no longer available for earlier class submarines.
