Led a diverse staff of 45 personnel responsible for planning, integrating, and directing full-spectrum cyberspace operations to defend friendly networks and exploit/disrupt adversary networks. Principal advisor to the Commander on all Cyberspace Operations.Key Results: Established and led the only Combatant Command Joint Cyber Center that actually executes cyberspace operations. The center was recognized as the DoD benchmark for other commands.  Thought leader for doctrinal employment of DoD’s Cyber Protection Teams. Defined and implemented an operational concept that effectively aligned advanced Cyber Protection Teams to mission critical functions such as Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) and Command and Control.  Leveraged briefing skills and operational experience to develop and deliver a cyber education series to senior executives, including multiple CENTCOM Commanders Developed an extensive engagement campaign to successfully champion a Joint Cyber Center resourcing strategy, subsequently approved by the Deputy Secretary of Defense. First Combatant Command to integrate Cyberspace Common Operational Picture on threat activity. Capability promoted foundational understanding which enabled proactive defense measures.

Led a joint staff of 72 personnel, responsible for establishing cyber defense policy, enforcing Information Assurance compliance, conducting critical-asset risk assessments, and managing computer network defense operations.Key Results:First 4-star combatant command headquarters to score outstanding on the Command Cyber Readiness Inspection. Reduced the headquarters highest risk vulnerabilities by over 80% and virtually eliminated all security exemptions that had accrued over years of lax oversight. Working with the National Security Agency, established the first-ever Combatant Command active cyber-defense HUNT team focused on detecting and defeating the advanced persistent threat. Team’s advanced operations routinely detected DoD red team activity operating on CENTCOM networks. Teaming with local law enforcement and counter-intelligence communities, established a highly skilled insider threat detection cell. Cell developed behavioral profiles and leveraged advanced analytics from multiple data sources to detect one insider and multiple instances of user indiscipline. Developed a risk-scoring methodology to assess critical infrastructure risk due to cyber threat. Approach was lauded by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy, as foundational for a Cyber Security Cooperation program with Gulf Partner Nations.
