Composer of symphonic, piano ,chamber, choral music, songs, have recently completed an opera about the US Civil War with Christina Rose, who wrote the book and libretto. Currently refining the score. This piece is a multi - year project and premiered on March 10th and 11th 2012. under the direction of Golden Gate Opera of Marin County, California, Roberta Wain-Becker, Artistic Director.Asoociated with this opera are several stand-alone pieces of symphonic music, four of which comprise a major work entitled "Apotheosis Of John Wilkes Booth", a suite lasting 45 minutes. It is written in a dramatic, neo-lyric style with arias, ensembles, choruses, large scenes as well as small, intimate ones. The creators have attempted to give this work a full range of emotional and musical content.Thematically, "Lincoln And Booth" covers the personal back stories of the protagonists but also attempts to address the question of race during the Civil War and Lincoln's movement towards support for the emancipation and equality of African-Americans during that period. There are also a number of arias for piano and voice which have been arranged as recital pieces. Have now created a shorter, tighter version of this opera focusing on Lincoln's relationship with African Americans and how they, in the persons of Elizabeth Keckley and Frederick Douglass induced Lincoln to create and sign the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.This work uses five principals and a spiritual choir in scenes separated by narration spoken by the Frederick Douglass character an takes an hour and 20 minutes to perform. It was performed on July 3rd 2016 in Marin County, California to a standing ovation audience.Specialties: Classical musical composition, orchestration, song and aria writing, choral composition, piano music, music for winds and band.
