Windmill Enterprise was developing the Cognida Network to bring blockchain technology to enterprise applications.

After Ambient was acquired by Ericsson in October, 2014, I continued to be responsible for engagement support to Ericsson's Global Utility Practice, as well as for trade-show support, technical documentation, and training to regional groups. In April, 2016, as part of a global re-structuring, Ericsson announced that it would shut down the former Ambient operation.

Ambient was an industry-leading provider of Smart Grid communications equipment. The company's products included solutions for wireless access and automated meter reading, with cellular backhaul, SCADA protocol support,and powerline-carrier meter reading; we also offered an element management system for monitoring and controlling the deployed grid communications infrastructure. Ambient notably supplied communications equipment to the largest PLC metering deployment in the United States, a network of 150,000 devices serving over 1,000,000 subscribers in greater Cincinnati, OH.At Ambient, I was responsible for pre- and post-sales technical support, training, customer network monitoring and operations, and technical documentation; I also supported partnerships with meter manufacturers and cellular service providers. My staff included both field engineers with IP networking backgrounds and those with an RF engineering specialty.

Chantry Networks was the developer of BeaconWorks, a wireless access system designed for large-scale enterprise and campus networking, combining 802.11 networking standards with flexible virtualization and centralized application of access policies. In January, 2005, Chantry was acquired by Siemens AG. As Vice-president, Operations, I assisted in the transition of the BeaconWorks product suite to the Siemens HiPath product line, oversaw the transition of contract manufacturing from Salem, NH, to Kladno, CZ, and supported the Chantry Networks (USA) IT infrastructure.

Gotham Networks developed the innovative Switchless Switch, a high-performance, high-density multi-service edge switch, capable of IP Routing, ATM switching, and Frame Relay switching at speeds from DS3 to OC-4, intermingling any service on any port. At Gotham I was responsible for systems engineering, proposal preparation, training, and technical support. I also had responsibility for sustaining engineering functions and oversaw test programs in several service-provider labs, achieving certification of the product for deployment in a tier-one carrier network. Gotham ceased operations in July, 2002.

IronBridge Networks was a manufacturer of a family of modular, scalable terabit routers, scaling in capacity from 7.5 gigabits per second up to 1.28 terabits per second, delivered over high-speed optical interfaces. At IronBridge my responsibilities included: requirements gathering from potential customers, validation of product design, technical liaison with industry and standard groups (such as the IETF, the ODSI consortium, the North American Network Operators Group, and the MPLS forum. Furthermore, I served as acting product manager for protocol software, spoke at industry conferences nad shows, and provided technical support to the IronBridge sales department. IronBridge ceased operations in January, 2001.

Windata, Inc. was a manufacturer of high-performance short- and medium-haul license free wireless LAN networking, using direct-sequence spread spectrum radio broadcast at 2.4 and 5.7 GHz. The company ceased operation in February, 1998.

Wellfleet Communications, Inc. (later Bay Networks, and still later acquired by Nortel Networks) was a vendor of high-performance, fault-resilient multi-protocol routers used for enterprise networking.I joined Wellfleet in 1988 (at which time the company had about 40 employees) to implement the then-emerging SNMP remote network management protocol for the Wellfleet router product line. In the following years I assumed responsibility for a group of engineers assigned to incremental enhancement and repair of software defects in the company's established router products.

During 1979-1983, I worked under contract to the U.S. National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute for Science and Technology) to represent the NBS in ANSI committee X3T5 and ISO committee TC97-SC16, devoted to the Open Systems Interconnection standardization effort.From 1984 to 1988 I managed the Micro-CSIN project under the sponsorship of the Nation Library of Medicine and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Micro-CSIN workstation provided a uniform and intelligible off-line front-end to a variety of autonomous medical bibliographic and toxic-substance management databases.
