Hello, I am John Garza, a student at the University of Texas at Dallas, where I am pursuing my Bachelors of Science in Software Engineering. I am a member of ACM, the largest computer science organization at UT Dallas, and am in the mentor program. I am also a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.I am most proficient in Java and C++, but I have experience with Python, JavaScript. I recently completed my largest project during my internship at Meta during the 2022 Summer. I learned Android Development using Java and built a workout tracking app with social aspects from scratch. I used a Parse database, an open source Android SDK, to store and fetch my data. I implemented Google Maps and Places API into the app to recommend nearby gyms, and created an algorithm that personalizes a user's feed. I designed the schema of the app entirely and built it for scalability and speed. During my first two semesters in college, I completed several C++ projects where I applied skills like memory allocation, string manipulation, and basic data structures. Outside of school, I taught myself the web languages and received a certificate from Udemy in Web Development. I was then hired to build a website for a Roblox game company where I used JavaScript and Joomla, a open source content management system.I began my coding career by teaching myself Python during COVID. I received a certificate from an Udemy Python course, and then completed multiple personal projects such as a fully functional Blackjack game using my new knowledge in Object Oriented Programming. I also experimented with the framework Django to build a basic Python webshop.
