I am an Interior retail designer for market leading department store John Lewis. I design architectural elements for new stores and the existing estate which address requirements of target customers and interpret them commercially. The role involves making informed, constructive solutions which engage with the customer from the entrance to exit. I try to generate an atmosphere which appeals to the customers’ emotions, senses and values, ultimately creating a memorable shopping experience.Design elements can range from the shop front, to the interior architectural strategy, including areas of relaxation. Every detail is considered in order to ensure the brand offers a world class retail experience that continues to evolve and offer a market leading service.As well as capturing the imagination of the customer, detailed presentations with realistic visualisation of the concepts are required in order to gain the approval of major stakeholders. I push the boundaries of ‘comfortable’ design in order to create retail with a point of difference. Ultimately retail should offer the chance to escape into a world of the ideal and capture the imagination of the customer. I bring that vision to life.

I worked under the senior designer for New Look, surveying units and creating drawing packages for construction for between 8-10 stores. During my time at Epoc I took over the role as the lead designer for New Look which involved liaising with the client over concept designs, attending site meetings and dealing with contractors over design related issues. I was also involved with Lloyds Pharmacy projects, designing retail and dispensary spaces according to a very specific brief. Pitching for private projects was an integral part of working in the practice. My role included creating 3D visuals for presentations using AutoCAD, Vectorworks and Adobe Photoshop which resulted in commissions for a bespoke sports retail store, restaurant and children’s nursery.

The sales industry allowed me to gain vital experience conveying ideas to a hard audience. Working in an industry surronded with pre-conceptions I was able to build a level of trust with clients. My ability to negotiate and community with people from a variety of backgrounds enabled me to develop in a fast paced, goals orientated business. My passion has always been design so this was not the career path I desired.
