Environmental Justice and Community Resilience Pilot Planning Project Assistant

Conducted in depth research with a group of four other master’s students for the State of Michigan’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Office of Environmental Justice Public Advocate, including interviews, quantitative data analysis, and environmental justice policy analysis. Research products included specific recommendations to EGLE for increasing community resilience in the 48217 zip-code of Southwest Detroit, including a GIS story map module to be used in collaboration with the existing state-wide MiEJScreen tool.

Through a partnership with Planet Detroit and the Program for Practical Policy Engagement (P3E) at the Ford School for Public Policy, I Investigated local qualitative and quantitative data to identify and collect risk and exposure to environmental health hazards in Detroit, Michigan and synthesized that data into a working document for relevant stakeholders to better engage with and use to help mitigate environmental risk and inform local policymakers.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore• Assisted with storage, organizing, monitoring, and housekeeping in the park’s museum collections storage and exhibit facilities • Researched and presented programs to park visitors on the natural and cultural resources of the park and developed educational curricula and exhibits • Assisted with special events and communication, including social media• Developed and presented a weekly interactive and educational talk on climate change effects in the National Park
