Fully trained by WorkSafe NZ in occupational health & safety, machine guarding and legislative interpretation which added to my current knowledge of safety in the mining industry. Also familiar with the new legislation due 2016.

I began my Australian journey here. Starting as a station assistant at Darling Harbour I progressed to Train Guard Class 1 which included qualification as a shunter. The principles I leaned those many years ago still provide a good understanding of rail operations. Back then many sections were non-auto that required application of signal box operation and staff-ticket running of trains. A position that called for a high degree of responsibility. Superseded by auto today. Included driver training to move an electric train (Sydney Metropolitan) in an emergency. Guards have since gone from the country trains / freight and now incorporated with observer but as you might read into this description, it was an enjoyable and valuable chapter of my Australian work-life. Certainly that experience follows to this day.
