About John Caplinger
Preface: I am currently displaying employment in three different capacities. This is the case. I solve problems and write software. I have demonstrated the ability to immerse myself in an industry, learn that industry, and perform in that industry by both doing the work and by writing software specific to that industry to address niche markets that would otherwise be orphaned by developers. You cannot automate a process until you HAVE a process; so I always do the work required by hand until I develop an acceptable process for automation. My training and background in Physics and Math inform my degree work in Computer Science to apply to all of the various areas I have worked in during my career.As an infantry sergeant, I ended up operating communications computers at Tactical Corps Headquarters. I became a licensed commodity broker (Series 3 License) running a trading desk in order to develop arbitrage and technical analysis software for my employer. I currently write software for Structural Engineers that integrates AutoCAD and Revit with analytical packages to minimize data entry and produce drawings in a smooth workflow from design concept to contract documents. I have participated in producing and presenting seminar power-point presentations to the User Group for GT STRUDL (the structural analysis package from Georgia Tech) on engineering work flow and design process, I also manage physical plant needs with regards to systems, procurement, and maintenance and manage three online domains, to include www.structuraldesktop.com. I never stop learning new things and am currently working on mastering Windows 8.1 and the Java programming language. (Addendum: Finished Java and am now working on Android Studio development of engineering software for phones. I have written a couple of engineering and entertainment aps.)(Addendum II: Continuing to work with REVIT and AutoCAD and Windows 10)
