CSMA is a non-profit which has been around for over 20 years and runs the Hobie House and Tranquility Village residential treatment programs for substance abuse issues. Hobie House is the mens program in Merced and Tranquility VIllage is the program in Atwater for women and their children. Women may have up to 2 children living with them in the program. Both are state licensed and certified programs offering residential and transitional housing for the homeless with substance abuse issues. CSMA has received HUD and First Five grants, as well as other funding. All employees are also certified substance abuse counselors.

CASA is Court Appointed Special Advocates, a national non-profit that trains Advocates to work with children in the Foster Care system in Merced County. Merced County has a very high rate of abused and neglected children in foster care on a per-capita basis. CASA of Merced County trains volunteer Advocates to work with children in foster care and with the Court system. These are children who are in the foster care system through no fault of their own. Judges typically rely heavily upon information provided by CASA Advocates in Court proceedings. Board Members are responsible for guiding the Executive Director and staff and for helping to raise money to support the program through fundraisers and other sources. I am one of the founding Board Members of this organization.

Lifetime member of California Narcotics Officer Association (CNOA) since 1980's and past instructor for CNOA. Founding member and Officer/Board Member for 33 years of American Federation of State,County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 2703 in Merced, CA. Current member of AFSCME Council 57 retirees chapter.Hundreds of specialized training and various college and university classes from 1972-2005. Have testified as an 'expert witness' on hundreds of occasions in local, state and Federal Courts, both in and out of California. Numerous awards and specialized certifications related to law enforcement issues.Taught Criminal Justice classes at Merced College until 2009.Past President - 4 years- of Retired Employees of Merced County (REMCO) and current Board Member of REMCO.Elected Mayor Pro Tem for City of Merced 2007-2009 and Council Member 2009-2011.Currently involved with non profits, Continuum of Care (CoC) & CoC Executive Council in Merced working to help homeless individuals. Founding Board Member of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Merced County. Current member of the Merced County Democratic Central Committee.

Retired as the senior Deputy Probation Officer III. Was involved in arming of probation officers in Merced County and worked several other special assignments. Assisted other Deputy Probation Officers with particularly difficult cases.
