John Carson is a capital markets consultant and expert with over 35 years of international and Canadian experience in the development, regulation, operation and supervision of capital markets. His consulting work is wide-ranging, covering market development, developing securities laws and regulations, governance and operations of securities exchanges and regulators, and operation of regulatory and supervisory programs. He has advised government and regulatory authorities in Canada and in numerous emerging markets. John has long acted as a consultant for The World Bank in the finance and capital markets area, advising on international best practices in a range of issues such as securities laws, SROs, securities exchanges, trading in public and private markets, SME markets, corporate governance and regulation of issuers, and supervision of markets and registrants. A securities lawyer and regulator by background, John was formerly head of all of the Toronto Stock Exchange’s SRO operations when it was a full-fledged SRO, and its Director of Market Integrity prior to that. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto Law School and the Commerce & Finance program of UofT’s Rotman School of Business, as well as the London Business School’s Senior Executive Programme. Currently he also acts as a volunteer director of and advisor to several non-profit organizations.
