I am chairman of the board of Jenike & Johanson, Inc., a world-renowned engineering consulting firm specializing in the storage, flow and processing of powder and bulk solids. For over 50 years I have played a key role in developing Jenike & Johanson to its present position, and my technical ability and wide experience in the field of storage and flow of solids have been recognized worldwide.I received my BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. While there I worked on co-op in the materials handling research group at US Steel's Applied Research Laboratory. In 1970 I completed my Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), after which I joined Jenike & Johanson, where I have been active in research, consulting, and management of the company. I retired from full-time employment in 2018.An author of over 150 articles on various topics dealing with solids flow, including bin and feeder design, flow of fine powders, design of purge vessels, and structural failures of silos, I have lectured extensively on these and related topics. For over 40 years, I was involved with the presentation of the AIChE Continuing Education course, “Flow of Solids in Bins, Hoppers, Chutes, and Feeders.”Specialties: Bin loads, particle segregation, structural failure, two-phase flow problems, bin and feeder design, troubleshooting solids flow-related problems, lecturer, expert witness
