I have a background in accountancy, IT, business consultancy and training and have a wide range of business experience gained in the UK and throughout the world. My early career was in local government accountancy and computing, which led me into business consultancy, management and training with a major international computer company. I left to start a training and consultancy business which expanded into the USA, and I went on to establish my own business, mainly advising start-up and established small businesses. Before setting up on my own, my last job was as a Business Link Business Advisor. As well as the UK, I have worked in Central and Eastern Europe, the USA, the Middle East, Africa, India, and the Far East, providing an opportunity for me to meet and work with people from many different cultures and backgrounds. During this time I worked with the owners and directors of over 400 businesses and organisations to help them develop and prosper. I also represented Business Link at numerous events and meetings and gave presentations on business related topics at seminars and workshops. Unfortunately, the Business Link Service has been restructured under the government's spending review and all its front-line staff have been made redundant.

As well as the usual marketing and business development activity, my responsibilities included training design and development, training delivery and the project management of major projects undertaken for clients. These included making bespoke training films and accompanying materials for use as distance learning packages - an innovation at the time. In 1987 we established a similar company in the USA, initially in Dallas, Texas, and subsequently also in Atlanta, Georgia. We eventually sold the business to our American Management Team.
