After an extensive career as an exploration and development geologist including on prospect identification, play fairway work, field geological mapping, drilling and seismic operations in offshore Australia, Indonesia, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago John became more Management and Commercially focused with roles as Technical Manager, Exploration Manager and Country Manager across businesses in Trinidad, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and Papua New Guinea. John has been involved in corporate acquisitions, farmins and farmouts, Government negotiations, implementing operated work programs and other New Business work and is used to managing independently in sometimes challenging locations. John has a combined technical and commercial focus with a strong knowledge of different Petroleum fiscal systems and is well connected in the Australia and Asian region. John retired from Santos in 2022 where he was VP for Operations across Northern Australia, Timor Leste and PNG. This role focused on both oil and gas production as well as a significant CO2 sequestration project. Since retirement John has become Managing Director of Larus Energy, a small exploration company with a PNG focus and has set up a consultancy business, Wollemi Energy Consultants that works for both Government and Investors across Commercial and Fiscal systems with a focus in the Asia Pacific Region. John has a BSc(Hons) from University of Melbourne, an MBA from UNISA and UCL and is a Graduate of AICD.
