Dr. John D. “Toast” Cinnamon (Ph.D., P.E., Colonel - USAF, Retired) is a Senior Technology Innovation Leader at The Aerospace Corporation. John was born in Seattle, Washington and graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in May 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Sciences (Space Systems Design). He then earned a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering (Space Systems Design & Control) at the University of Texas at Austin in 1992. Upon the completion of pilot training in 1993, Col Cinnamon flew the C-5 Galaxy until 1997. He then returned to the USAF Academy to teach Astronautical Engineering and Introductory Flight Training in the T-3 from 1997 to 1999. Col Cinnamon served as a T-38 Instructor/Evaluator Pilot for the U-2 program (Beale AFB) from 1999 until 2003. He then was selected for Intermediate Developmental Education in the Doctorate Program at the Air Force Institute of Technology. Upon earning a Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering (Hypervelocity/Hypersonics) in 2006, Col Cinnamon was sent to Laughlin AFB to fly the T-1 and serve as the Operations Officer and then Commander of the 86th Flying Training Squadron. After his tour at Laughlin, he was selected for Senior Developmental Education at the Joint Advanced Warfighting School. He then served as the Director of Plans at the US Strategic Command Center for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction/Defense Threat Reduction Agency, where he was the lead planner for the Office of the Secretary of Defense Syria Integration Group. Col Cinnamon then commanded the 71st Operations Group, Vance AFB, OK. John finished his military career as the Permanent Professor and Head of the Department of Aeronautics, US Air Force Academy, Colorado. Col Cinnamon retired as a Command Pilot, with over 4800 hours in the T-1, T-3, T-37, T-38, T-41, T-53, and C-5 aircraft. John is also currently an instructor pilot for a major U.S. airline in the B737.

Authored and/or approval all WMD annexes in every US military plan during this period (e.g. USSTRATCOM, USCENTCOM, NORTHCOM, etc.). Personally authored over 20 classified position papers read at the highest levels of government. Ranked #1/27 Joint Officers and #1/4 O-6 Directors. Primary DOD technical expert/negotiator with the Russian delegation and primary author of the Geneva Framework Agreement. Personally awarded the SECDEF Group Achievement Award by Secretary of Defense Hagel for Syrian chemical weapons destruction.
