It is my intention to make the ALEUTIAN EXPRESS the most efficient and lowest carbon footprint commercial vessel of it's size operating on the Pacific Ocean. To preserve one of the most historic vessels of the Pacific Northwest still operating today and to support scientific research durring and in post season Alaska commercial fishing activities.

After selling my 60' Ketch NESIKA and sailing it from Honolulu to Dana Point, California and later delivering it to San Diego for the new owners, Mike Kent called me a week after arriving and said "I'll make you an offer you can't refuse if you take over the EXPRESS. I knew the challenges ahead of me if I chose to take on this enormous task, and wasn't quite sure if I wanted to (after all I was just relieved of the burden of ownership of my other vessel) and needed to think about it. A week later I agreed to take on the challenge of resurrecting a steel vessel from 1912 and reshaping it to fit my needs and future plans on the ocean. I designed the outline concept of what I would do and proceeded to charge (at times stumble) ahead into reshaping this historic vessel which then I knew little about other than it was a cool old boat. Still learning of her rich history and scultping it with each project to expand it's capabilities and service life as a workboat. After the May/June 2016 Shipyard at Port Townsend, Washington, the EXPRESS was renamed ALEUTIAN EXPRESS to combine the name it had from 1929 to 1939 as a Western Alaska freighter "ALEUTIAN NATIVE" with the name it was changed to as an oil tanker "EXPRESS". Still moving ahead steady as she goes!

Captain of Research Vessel Klause Wyrtki. NOAA Charters to calibrate NASA MODIS and SeaWiFS chlorophyll Satellite led by Dennis Clark, Various Oceanographic research projects
Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, California
I purchased NESIKA in Seattle, Washington and remodeled parts of the interior, self taught aluminum welding and constructed a new aluminum hatch cover and main mast from Aluminum light poles and Boeing scrap. The vessel I presently own, the ALEUTIAN EXPRESS (then EXPRESS) towed NESIKA up the inside passage in May 1997 behind 2 barges while I constructed the aluminum main boom. Cutting us loose at Cape Spencer to sail across the Gulf of Alaska to Chignik and later that year on the last day of September sailed from Sand Point to Honolulu encountering the remnants of a category 5 hurricane which was forecasted to move to the north when we departed, but moved south into our position with winds in excess100 knots and seas of 45 to 50 feet. The boat was used in a Super bowl Pepsi commercial (which aired in Europe) as the picture boat. Bottom fished the Ho'Omalu area of the Northwest Hawaiian Islands for bottom fish and later operated several charters to Kiribati hauling fishing supplies supporting the dive fishery in the aquarium trade and a Ham Radio charter to Palmyra with a charter to Pago Pago Samoa (solo return to Honolulu). Motorsailed NESIKA from Honolulu to Dana Point, California January 2004 and later that week to San Diego for the new owners who hired a captain to deliver the vessel to Costa Rica.
Honolulu, Hawaii
Operated sailing charters between Alaska commercial fishing activities from 1990 to 2000DBA as Hickam Harbor Sailing Charters at Hickam AIRFORCE base MWRS from 1994 to 1999 operating interisland and day-sails including a permit with the US NAVY to operate inside Pearl Harbor. Appeared in 4 scenes of Bruce Brown's ENDLESS SUMMER II movie (filmed December 14,1992 and released by New Line Cinema in 1994). Last scene before opening credits dropping in at Waimea Bay after scene showing Laird Hamilton strap surfing after tow-in to Pe'ahi on Maui, the scene transitions to me dropping in out of the white water and outrunning the wave as other surfers drop in disappearing from view as the spray rains down in slow motion transition to the opening credits, sunset scene and theme song. The other 3 scenes I appear in sequence later in the movie. Also appeared in Surfer Magazine May 1993 issue of photo showing kelly Slater dropping in and John Clutter on the lip of the wave backing off from the same day as the film.
