I like to talk to people about engineering however I don’t really like to talk about myself, it’s a bit against the grain, but here is a potted history of my story so far:Long before leaving school, I had decided that I wanted to work in engineering, I was fascinated by taking things apart and understanding how they worked. I had wanted to be an electrician but the jobs market of the early 80’s had left me with only one offer of an apprenticeship, welding, and thick plate fabrication!The majority of the final year of my apprenticeship was spent in the inspection department and provided a good grounding in QA/QC, mechanical testing and NDT. When I was made redundant at Christmas 1989 I decided to follow the Inspection pathway, what followed was almost 15 years of working for service inspection companies and working as a contractor, eventually in supervisory roles in the UK and overseasIn 2003 I was engaged full-time by my current employer, for me this was a pivotal moment. Despite still being a contractor I was able to further develop rather than just trying to survive. I went from Contract Inspector to Associate Inspection Engineer in two years and was successful in securing a staff appointment in 2008.Since then I have further developed academically, technically and managerially, gradually increasing responsibility with the development of Quality Management Systems, delivery of inspection projects, and as a technical authority. My development was rewarded with a promotion to Lead Inspection Engineer in 2017.On reflection, I have become a successful Inspection and Quality Engineer with over 35 years’ of experience in the application and delivery of inspection processes. My approach is focused and methodical and I am able to communicate at all levels within an organisation whilst still maintaining a professional and positive approach towards both work colleagues and customers alike - remaining calm and professional when working under pressure or during times of critical importance.I am proud to have represented my current employer in the following countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Denmark, Croatia and Japan.Reach out to me to discuss engineering, QA, NDT, or rugby union.
