Cognos (acquired by IBM in 2008) is a well known Ottawa-based SW company that develops and supports a suite of Business Intelligence (BI) products for a world wide customer base. As QA Manager, I was involved in all aspects of software quality management re the development life cycle and the day to day management of a team of quality engineers tasked with testing an area of the BI product suite that had high visibility and was “critical path” for SW releases. Activities included:• Planned and managed the testing of new and enhanced SW features via Agile methodologies which resulted in the delivery of high quality complex functionality in a timely manner• Conducted business analysis, managed application development and drove adoption to overhaul a largely manual SW testing culture and transformed it to a comprehensive test automation process to achieve continuous SW delivery, saving many person months of SW testing time• Coordinated end to end SW defect management to meet or exceed aggressive quality targets• Authored web based dashboard queries which had visibility across all SW departments to allow managers to report on project status and take action to meet challenging SW delivery timelines• Prepared and delivered SW testing training modules designed to introduce testing processes to the wider development community resulting in much greater cooperation within and between all SW departments• Chaired weekly meetings with department leads to foster coordination and communication of activities• Lead the business analysis and test management of a 1.5 year initiative to allow the entire BI product suite to successfully achieve Accessibility Certification (A11Y) status, a huge accomplishment that allowed our SW to compete in customer scenarios where A11Y Certification was mandatory• Presented executive summaries of program progress to senior management

I was part of a team of exploration geologists responsible for identifying, exploring and assessing potential gold properties in central and northern Chile. Responsibilities included logistics, preparation of topographic maps and corresponding satellite imagery, precise site and property location/archive via GPS, rock sample collection/cataloguing, plotting/interpretation of assay results.

As part of a small mineral exploration company, I was responsible for field season preparation (camp logistics/construction, preparation of all support material ie maps, historical mineral information, hiring field crews). Once on site, I was responsible for the day to day management of field camps and exploration activities including coordination of and participation in geochemical and rock sampling, geophysical surveys, trenching programs and drilling programs. I was also responsible for the collation of all mineral results and the end of each 6 month field season and draft property assessment reports for submission to the BC provincial government.
