THREE - It is humbling to learn that people want to work with you. One employee sold his house and moved his family of five 660 miles to continue working with me. After eight years of mentoring him, he took my job as the Director of Engineering when I once again moved for another promotion. I have been told by several people over the years that they would love to work for me. Presently there are three waiting for that next opportunity, one of which has never worked for me.FOUR – I don’t commit intellectual theft. When an employee has a good idea that requires approval above my level, I push their suggestion up the chain of command, mentioning whose idea it was and I CC them in the email. FIVE - I try to be humble. Many times, throughout my career, I have asked those who work for me their opinion on a process, technology, theory of operation, etc. You earn respect when you ask those on your team their opinion or thoughts. I do not know it all.SIX - I am quick to interrupt meetings. I will ask questions if I am unsure of a process, how technology works, or the definition of something that was said, often something of a medical nature. This shows I am engaged and care about the discussion. It also shows I have courage to disclose that I have room to grow. To fake it till you make it is foolish in my opinion, that’s how you become a casual observer of a meeting you were expected to participate in, but you contributed nothing and learned nothing by pretending to follow the meeting.SEVEN - I promise I will surprise you and exceed your expectations. Whatever labels you may want to affix to my persona before we work together will not work for you. Hollywood creates colorful characters for the storyline, but those characters often would not make for a successful career in the military. Veterans are disciplined, courageous employees, thriving to be on a team who fully understand commitment, accountability and mission accomplishment. Executive Director Of FacilitiesAdventhealth Wesley Chapel Jul 2022 - PresentResponsible for the Maintenance Department, Biomed, Security, Landscaping, (EVS, aka Environmental Services August 2012-April 2023), Construction Projects and Emergency Management.2012 - Hired 10 months before opening of a new 83 bed hospital (200,000 sq. ft.) and Medical Office Building (100,000 sq. ft.) with all new staff, a once in a lifetime experience. It was by far the hardest work I have ever done. Working seven days a week, by the 3rd month I was working 80 plus hours a week and the last few months before opening I was peaking at 110-120 hours per week. We opened two weeks early, under budget and did an excellent job with the accreditation inspections and a year later we passed the DNV Accreditation with flying colors. It was truly amazing the number of things that had to be done; I sure wish there were Clift Notes to reference for such an endeavor, maybe I should write a book on this?2017 - Completed a hospital expansion of 57% with a $ 78M project increasing capacity to 145 beds, 8 operating rooms, 35 Emergency Department exam rooms capping out at 286,000 sq. ft.2018 – Completed construction of a 24-exam room Off Site Emergency Department named Central Pasco ER. It has 17,728 sq. ft.2021 – We have completely built out all shell space with 169 beds, 12 operating rooms, 35 exam rooms in the Emergency Department. I just can’t speak well enough for the quality of the management team and the support staff that we have. I am truly blessed to be part of such a great organization.

Director Of EngineeringLaughlin Memorial Hospital Dec 2007 - Dec 2011Supervised a maintenance staff of 13 including biomedical staff. Responsible for the maintenance, infrastructure improvement, remodeling and new construction of a 140 bed hospital, 90 bed nursing home, and 3 medical office buildings consisting of 495,000 sq. ft. I justified approximately $14M for infrastructure improvements.My signature achievement during this job was recognizing that the facility had significant opportunities for improvement to save energy cost. Although the hospital was only 13 years old at time of my hire they were using T-12 lighting, pneumatic controls, oversized boilers and cheap chillers. Working with Trane I had an energy study performed and then used the report to get funding for a Performance Contract. The project took 2.5 years to complete. I was ecstatic to learn recently that the measurement and verification report that was conducted 18 months after my departure stated that although the Performance Contract guarantee was an annual energy savings of $597,567 the manner in which the building automation was run ended up saving $1,545,791 in utility cost the first year.The hospital started off with an Energy Star rating of 31 and finished with a 97 three years later. We were the only hospital in Tennessee and just 1 of 30 Hospitals in the nation to earn the Energy Star rating. Only five hospitals in the nation had a higher score. -
