Winkflash was acquired by Mailpix in 2014.I was responsible for the architecture and implementation of all technology, including customer facing apps (.net, Android, iOS), back office services (.net), factory automation (.net) and infrastructure. My skills include system architecture, hands on coding skills, team leadership (in-house + outsource), infrastructure design, large SAN management, and API design.I led the programming teams, DevOps teams, personally coded thousands of lines of code, and designed many of the photo correction algorithms. I designed all the data stores and excel in transforming stories into data schemas (SQL) and code.

I was CTO of Highstream, a disruptive medium sized 75,000 subscriber ISP offering a variety of apps, including virus scanners, firewalls, movie rental services, web filters, and web acceleration apps. Highstream was acquired by Earthlink in 2007.This was my first foray into a direct to consumer business, which was a quite an eye opener. I had to get good at big email, fraud detection, payment processors, and movie databases.My responsibilities included managing the tech team, system architecture (.net, RADIUS, SQL, C++ apps, installers, big email), colocation management, and back office service management (billing, payment processing).

Bluestreak was at the forefront of ad serving technology back in the day. Our dream was real time ad serving coupled with rich media. We designed our own ad servers and rich media players (Java + Flash), and offered a variety of solutions. We built the first ogg vorbis / G.711 video player for the AOL client partnering with Viewpoint for deployment with their player. It was a very exciting time for ad tech at the time, where we played a pivotal roll in inventing ad formats that are still used today (expanding ad for example).I headed up all technology, responsibilities included building and managing the tech team, architecture, co-inventing ad formats, and hand coding where needed.At the time, nobody outsourced and cloud computing didn't exist, so we built a great team and managed all of our own hardware. We lived in the Microsoft stack server side (C++, ASP, Sql Server), and lived in the Java + Flash tech on the client side. It was an great time in my life building a business with long time friends and starting a family.Mentoring this team was very key for me. Many of the team members are now very established computer scientists.

I taught 5 day lecture series at MIT Lincoln Labs, a satellite research facility for MIT in Cambridge. My students ranged from PhD's to assistants, so you can imagine the difficulty teaching this range of skill.I taught C, C++, CGI classes using textbooks and my own material. I enjoyed a blackboard style of teaching, plus coding on screen / teaching the IDE at the same time. I chose the Visual Studio suite to teach in, which I believe to this day is still the best IDE.You might call this the earliest form of bootcamp academies!Teaching is one of my passions.

We developed and licensed one of the first power measurement devices for bicycles. In 1996 we predicted that power would be The performance metric. This vision drove our invention of the first chain based power measurement system. Today there are now more than a dozen different power measurement products in the market or in development. Power is now the ultimate cycling metric.I developed the variable reluctance sensors, DSP algorithms, and early PC based prototypes. This was a very difficult problem to crack, involving complex adaptive filters and mechanical design challenges.We licensed the invention to Polar Electro, the world leader in sports heart rate monitoring, from 1998 to 2012.

I worked as a Software Engineer coding in C on a variety of embedded systems, including Motorola 88K, 68K, UNIX + POSIX systems, x86 embedded controllers, and X/Motif U/X's.This great job introduced me to DSP programming, real time systems, and provided mentoring that I dearly needed.

This was my first official job out of school. I developed code for Alcatel's T1 Multiplexer Supervisory Card (x86 embedded controller) in Pascal (remember that language?) Understanding hardware, I immediately gravitated towards rebuilding the operating system interrupt services and I/O control bus resulting in huge jumps in system performance. This granted me quick respect and elevation as a consultant in years afterwards with many redesigns and feature improvements.This job also provided me the opportunity to prototype their Network Management product running on a Sun 2. I installed one of the first X-Windows installs from MIT weeks after its release, realizing the power of the first open source UI.
