Senior Network Engineer

Mclean, Va, Us

I was a network engineer on the Kirtland AFB data network and the Defense Research and Engineer Network (DREN). The Kirtland network had 10,000 customers connected through 800 network devices and DREN had around 100 network devices and 300 customers. Kirtland used Juniper equipment and DREN used Brocade. ◦ I configured and installed 4 separate Cisco ASA and one FTD firewalls from unboxing to production. One was in transparent mode. Four had Next Generation IDS/IPS, I configured and managed a Firepower Management Center (FMC). I also configured remote access and site to site VPNs ◦ I Developed and deployed an IP scheme and VLAN for building access system for 35 buildings and a separate BAS for 10 SCIFs. ◦ The DREN had no functioning NTP, so I corrected the network device and NTP server configuration. I configured a router to act as a backup NTP server. I got timing from DREN and the US Naval Observatory and provided timing to the network. ◦ I expanded the network to new customers by configuring and installing over 20 new access switches. ◦ I built a wireless network that had over 100 access points in 50 buildings. The project required VLANs for DREN, a commercial ISP, on-boarding, and AP management networks. The commercial boundary required a new Cisco FTD 2130 firewall. Also, the traffic had to be spread over five separate business class ISP modems. I was also the administrator of the on-boarding server and the wireless controller server. ◦ I configured TACLANEs to provide inline network traffic encryption.

Senior Network Engineer

Houston, Tx, Us

I worked on the Executive Airlift Communications Network (EACN). The network supported USAF aircraft network traffic via satellite. Depending on the flight schedule, we would have two to twelve aircraft sending data, voice, and video traffic to our NOC. We would forward the aircraft’s data to appropriate destinations such as classified, unclassified, or commercial internet. • I used VMware ESXi to build, update/patch Windows Domain Controllers and DNS servers by following build and update guides provided by server admins. • I applied security/application updates to 24 workstations and 8 servers to fix vulnerabilities identified by a Tenable Nessus scanner. I also use the Nessus scanner to ensure the updates were successful. • I configured, updated, and troubleshot TACLANEs to provide encrypted tunnels to aircraft and out to military and government networks. • I ran and terminated work area and backbone copper and fiber network cables for workstations, servers, TACLANEs, and routers/switches.

Satellite Hub Manager

Arlington, Va, Us

I worked on the Joint Telemedicine Network (JTMN) at the Landsuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC). The JTMN network was a satellite network connecting the LRMC to 27 medical centers in Iraq and Afghanistan. • I worked with the iDirect series 15100 Universal Satellite Hub with iNFINITI line cards using software version 7.1.2. Configured and troubleshot chassis and line cards. • I worked on a 3.8 meter antenna, installed redundant 100 watt Solid Stat Power Amplifiers, redundant Low Noise Blocks (LNB oscillates satellite signal to lower freq for coaxial cable) using KU band, and used an oscilloscope to point the dish and watch for signal interference. • I was the Video Teleconference (VTC) administrator. I configured the VTC call center at the LRMC and VTCs at 8 sites. The systems was used for weekly, case briefings with the US Army Medical Command in San Antonio, Texas and to facilitate specialty assistance for doctors in theater. I wrote a set up guide for field technicians. • I implemented the iDirect VLAN solution to support Voice over IP. • I worked with Riverbed Steelhead WAN accelerators to get more throughput across the satellite link.

I worked in the SPAWAR (now called NAVWAR) NOC to monitor satellite and terrestrial links to over 300 small sites in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. This NOC also administrates classified networks. • I was responsible for maintaining Cisco PIX firewalls and Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) firewalls on the enterprise edge and at remote sites.
