Accountable for ensuring all activities of Shell's Ship Management Division with regard to ship management, emergency response, maritime security and contracting and procurement are managed in full compliance with all applicable Flag State, Group and Company requirements, including being commercially competitive while maintaining best-in-class safety, reliability and cost performance operational standards.

Management of Shell’s Ship Quality Assurance Team (known as the SAFE Team) in assessing the quality of all internationally trading vessels proposed for all use by Royal Dutch Shell Group Companies.Principal Accountabilities include:Provision of the positive vetting of cargo transport vessels, implementation of the Group Standard for Ship Quality Assurance and associated requirements.Leadership of the Global SAFE Team, based in Singapore, Rotterdam, London, Dubai & Houston.Contribute to industry efforts to raise tanker standards, particularly through membership and active participation of OCIMF and engagement with other industry bodies.Provide ship quality assurance services to both operated and non-operated joint ventures.

Providing support, coaching and guidance to the Shell Tankers Australia Pty Ltd (STAPL) and Trident LNG Shipping Services Pty Ltd (TLNG), shore based management teams in Asset Integrity-Process Safety Management, business risk management, development of the TLNG business management system and day-to-day operational management of the STAPL fleet.

Accountable for monitoring and assuring all Shell HSSE & SP Control Framework related activities and deliverables, including HSSE & SP performance as part of the three x 4MTPA FLNG facility mega-project in the Browse basin 440Km off the coast of Western Australia.Management of a team of HSSE & SP professionals (technical safety, construction HSSE and project HSSE & SP), accountable for the design HSE, including process safety requirements for the three FLNG facilities and all project/construction HSSE requirements for construction, commissioning and installation.

Management of a Fleet Group consisting of 12 LNG vessels (9 Q-Max and 3 Q-Flex), and 2 LPG vessels. Accountable for managing all activities necessary for the safe, reliable, efficient and cost-effective operation of 12 of the largest LNG ships ever built, delivering a top quartile fleet performance.Major Achievements: Delivered significant turnaround in fleet performance, specifically in terms of safety and reliability.

Accountable for monitoring the operation and maintenance of a fleet of 9 LNG ships by their allocated ship operator on behalf of the ship owners, and for ensuring LNG vessels chartered by the venture are of a suitable quality in line with current industry standards.Major Achievements: Delivered a fleet life extension project from developing the business case through scoping, planning, resourcing and finally delivering the first successful refit, for a nominal 15 year life extension post their first 20 years in service.

Leadership and project management of multi disciplined teams of professionals for four new construction projects for thirteen new LNGCs on behalf of joint ventures, and two new LNGC ship acquisition projects.Major Achievements: Delivered final ship building and time charter party contracts for construction and long term time charter of three new LNGCs, and managed the construction supervision and delivery of six LNGCs.

Responsible for all aspects of new LNGC construction projects, including management of site team supervising the construction, commissioning and delivery, plan approval, factory acceptance test attendance, writing outline technical specifications and Invitation to Bid documentation including shipbuilding contract.Major Achievements: Contributed to the successful delivery of final ship building and time charter party contracts for construction of four new LNGC’s and long term time charter of a further six new LNGCs.

Responsible for engineering design, planning, technical specification writing, tender evaluation / contract negotiation and thereafter on site leadership and management of a team of disciplined engineers for the conversion of a 2.2 million bbl, 1975 built VLCC into an Floating Storage and off-take Unit (FSU).Major Achievements: Delivery of a fully commissioned FSU to time, cost and quality.

Accountable for the day-to-day operational management of four product tankers, including HSE and budgetary performance, mechanical and cosmetic maintenance and, planning and managing the execution of scheduled refits, out of service repairs and surveys.Major Achievements: Delivery of safe and reliable vessel operation and four refits to time, cost and quality.

Sea service progressing from Second Engineer (Cargo Engineer) to Chief Engineer. Experience on LNGCs (membrane and Moss).Major Achievements: Contributed to the successful refit, reactivation and lay-up of an LNGC to time, cost and quality, and the customers business requirements.

Responsible for facilitating business improvement at all levels of the fleet management structure. Maintaining and administering the fleet operations certificated management system, ensuring continued compliance with and approval to the ISO 9002 standard.Major Achievements: Developed the fleet operations management system to comply with the requirements of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and managed the integration of four separate ISO-9002 certificated management systems into one as part of the amalgamation of the four national Shell tanker fleets into one.

Responsible for the investigation and reporting of technical issues within the Shell fleet, feasibility studies for replacing existing equipment with new in compliance with national and international legislation. Compiling, planning and carrying out refit work and special survey work on vessels in the Shell Fleet.Major Achievements: Delivery of first self planned and managed refit to time, cost and quality

Four year cadetship then sea service progressing through the ranks from Junior Engineer to Second Engineer. Experience on LNGCs (GT membrane), bulk carriers, VLCCs, North Sea shuttle tankers and product carriers. Attendance at vessel refits.Major Achievements: Successfully obtained my Combined First Class Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer).
