Part of an international consortium of early-stage researchers within the ECORISK2050 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network focusing on human and environmental risk to anthropogenic chemicals under different global change scenarios. Focus is on development of numerical modelling methods to explore scenarios of chemical exposure. Additional focus is on understanding risks to wastewater treatment systems posed from upstream industrial chemicals.

Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina Area

Part of a team that designed and conducted an inhalation exposure modeling study investigating the potential health impacts of exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from oil and gas drilling operations in Colorado. Crucially involved in conducting human exposure modeling in support of the U.S. EPA's Risk and Technology Review, the 2014 National Air Toxics Assessment, and the review of the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for sulfur dioxide using environmental fate and transport or inhalation exposure models (i.e., the Total Risk Integrated Methodology Fate, Transport, and Ecological Exposure (TRIM.FaTE) model, the Hazardous Air Pollutant Exposure Model (HAPEM), and the Air Pollutants Exposure (APEX) model). Provided maintenance and documentation support to the U.S. EPA for the APEX model.

Designed computer algorithms for processing and visualization of large amounts of satellite-based, surface-based, and model-derived georeferenced data (on the order of 100s-1,000s of GB). Organized a team of 6 researchers to perform consistent, subjective analysis of 3 years of visible satellite images with the goal of identifying specific cloud features. Assessed published literature and synthesized previous findings in the context of ongoing research. Corresponded with scientists both nationally and internationally regarding analysis techniques and acquisition of data sets for incorporation into ongoing research. Developed and presented scientific talks that effectively communicated findings to the geosciences community

Devised lab activities for a new introductory meteorology course with a focus on active learning and understanding of key societal implications of meteorological events. Designed interactive in-class presentations to supplement such activities. Created pre-lecture questions based off of student reading.

Conducted a Matlab-based lab section of a sophomore level meteorology class. Helped guide students in the use of good programming practices and completion of weekly lab assignments. Graded student lab assignments and provided feedback on students’ computer programming.

Conducted ice nucleation experiments on atmospheric aerosols using a drop freezing assay. Critiqued and innovated various aspects of experimental design to optimize data collection. Participated in an ice nucleation instrument inter-comparison with colleagues from various national and international institutions. Assisted in preparing several scientific manuscripts for publication. Utilized Matlab to analyze data from drop freezing experiments.
