This program is a Statewide Watershed Planning & Management Program, authorized by House Bill 7 and administered by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Soil & Water Conservation. It's purpose is to improve and protect the state's watersheds through planning, management, and engagement in local, regional, and state level conservation activities.

I was the biosolids coordinator for northeast Ohio and the pretreatment specialist for 6 counties.

At this position I was in charge of a group of sexually troubled teens who were receiving treatment in the Mojave Desert. The clients were fully submerged in a wilderness setting while the staff rotated in and out of the field. I worked anywhere from 96 to 168 hours a week, this high weekly work load was because I was sleeping and monitoring during the nights as well. My roles included logistics of when and where to camp, receive water and food, continuing the treatment philosophy when the therapist were not in the field, and maintain the safety of the group from internal and external threats.

I conducted research for my advisor on his acid mine drainage pigment retrieval remediation process, as well as my thesis work that uses iron oxidizing bacteria to produce high quality paint pigment

My thesis research was to use acidophilic (likes an acidic environment) iron oxidizing bacteria to biologically oxidize ferrous iron to form a solid iron precipitate in acid mine drainage. This solid precipitate was then utilized as a paint pigment. The pigment retrieval method is not a new concept, but in the conventional processes it would oxidize other metals, such as aluminum, creating a less pure iron pigment. Utilizing the bacteria, at a low pH, the aluminum and other impurities will stay in their dissolved state while the bacteria force the iron to oxidize and precipitate.

My research topic was studying the strength properties of JSC-Mars 1A Martian soil simulant that was formulated by the Johnson Space Center and was modeled after in-situ soil testing on Mars. I studied the physical and microstructure properties of the simulant and comparing my data to "Earth" soil. I have conducted many soil characteristic tests on the soil such as: gradation/hydrometer curves, Atterburg limits, standard proctor, direct shear, and triaxial compression. The soils was also observed under a scanning electron microscope down to 50 micrometers to see individual fine grained particle angularities. Engineering advantages to Martian construction and travel can be determined from this data.

I preformed drainage basin delineation using Civil 3D and LIDAR data.
