COMPELLED BY PRIDEManaging ChangeI’ve adapted successfully to change throughout my career. At TSA, screening procedures changed at a dizzying rate. A TSO’s job depends on adapting to change.ProjectsOne theme that runs through my work history is my effort to add value, to stand out. I seldom worked with team members who were content to just “get by,” so this was far from easy. I didn’t take on projects solely to get a raise or win recognition. I got it in my head the task *had* to be done.Stand Up GuyAt TSA, screeners were welcome to take a seat while waiting on passengers at the document podium. I was among those TSOs who chose to stand. I believed it made for better customer relations. Passengers need to stand in line, so why shouldn’t a screening officer? I didn’t want to be stereotyped as a lazy government worker. I wanted to look customers straight in the eye and give them respect. I never got a pat on the back from anyone for this. Pride compelled me.
