Challenge: Facilitate the citizens of the locality in maintaining its quality of lifeamid high-growth pressures. Action: Act as liaison for the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board ofHistoric and Architectural Review, review all site plans—commercial and residential, create all town maps, beginprocess of updating Historic District Guidelines and the Town’s Comprehensive plan. Results: Town was able towithstand growth pressures and grow at a reasonable pace

Challenge: Help agency better manage their Consolidated Action Plan (CAP) and build more affordablehousing. Action: Work with partner agencies to write new CAP and Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluationand Review (CAPER). Work with community partners and Norfolk Southern Railroad to acquire railroad land foraffordable housing. Results: Agency’s CAP and CAPER were received by HUD with 60% fewer comments andconditions and the agency had more land to build affordable housing.

Assist local communities meet the mandates of the Chesapeake Bay Act and protect theirhistorical resources. Action: Project manager for the City of Charlottesville Historic 1803 Courthouse Project; leadplanner for the Mathews County and the City of Hopewell Comprehensive Plans; lead Planner of the City of SuffolkHistoric District Guidelines. Results: Several Virginia waterfront communities had better protection for theChesapeake Bay and a better understanding of their historic resources..

Challenge: Increase guest satisfaction and reduce costs. Action: Createtraining matrix to train all employees in core work stations. Revamp menu to incorporate a broader range of freshingredients and more healthy entrees. Create more promotions to promote greater utilization of lounge. Results:Increase in positive guest satisfaction surveys, 20 % increase in sales, greater employee retention resulting in lessemployee costs.
