Managing Commissioner
CurrentReporting directly to the Principal, the Administrative Commissioner for Baltimore City. I assist the Administrative Commissioner in the management and supervision of approximately 60 court commissioners throughout Baltimore City. Commissioners are assigned to a day, evening or overnight shift, working 7 days a week, 365 a year. Currently, I have 20 court commissioners as direct reports. Duties include all responsibilities assigned to the position of court commissioner. Other duties include, but not limited to: approve and deny leave, create and manage the monthly schedule, train and develop the growth of new commissioners, honor and uphold the Judiciary's policy related to human resource mandates, FMLA, COVID (and other health related codes), Judicial Code of Ethics and Administrative Policies and Regulations. Counsel, write and reprimand commissioner behavior and work product. Assist the Administrative Commissioner with resolving complaints and allegations of misconduct. Answer queries from law enforcement agencies, the Clerk's Office, the Public Defender's Office, Office of the State's Attorney, Baltimore City Correctional Institutions and other judicial partners. Assist the Administrative Commissioner in gathering data, statistics and reports for a city-wide Quarterly Meeting. Interview new commissioner candidates. Conduct weekly shift meetings. Maintain office supplies and functional equipment and technology. Teach courses related to new laws, probable cause and best practices for dealing with the difficult customer/defendant. Approve travel expenses. Host daily discussions to increase morale. Attend judicial trainings and the Annual Leadership Conferences. Confirm court-appointed attorney attendance and sign invoices. All other duties as assigned.
