John David Layton is Principal of Gramatan Capital Management LLC a private equity firm focused on biotechnology, financial technology and real estate holdings. We make early stage growth capital investments in cash flow positive or cash flow neutral companies. Mr. Layton has over ten years of experience in portfolio management and over 20 years experience in various construction roles including executive project manager, and superintendent for several major metropolitan area construction managers. Projects completed include commercial, institutional, and residential projects in the New York Metropolitan Area and the Carribean. Before forming Gramatan LLC, John was a Managing Director at Melkonian Capital Management and prior to that spent five years operating a real estate development company, Ironhead Enterprises LLC, where he was the principal. He has developed from ground up or rehabilitated multipule projects in Manhattan. The most recent project was The Gramercy 145 Condominium on Lexington Avenue in New York CityPrevious to 2005 Mr. Layton was employed from1996 to 2004 as Project Executive, Project Manager, and Construction Superintendent at HRH Construction LLC, a leading construction management firm in New York City that had over $550 million of construction work under management annually. John received a B.A. degree from Lehigh University in 1984 and an M.B.A. from Columbia University in 1998. Mr. Layton is also involved in a number of philanthropic and community activities including Boy Scouts of America, New York Open Judo Tournament, and is President Emeritus of the Friends of Morningside Park.
