I was the senior manager at the Steenbras Power Station (a hydroelectric pumped storage system) for nineteen years of my entire career with the City of Cape Town Electricity Department. I was the second senior manager of Steenbras for ten years prior to that. My portfolio of responsibilities was expanded in 2006 to include the City's remaining active power stations (two open cycle gas turbines), located at two different sites. From about that time I was required to initiate the processes needed to decommission the thermal Athlone Power Station which ceased generation of electricity in August of 2003..My duties and experience included all aspects of the operation, maintenance, life extensions (capital projects), human resources, Compliance with the relevant national legislation for: Occupational Health and Safety, National Electricity Regulator, Environmental, Management of dams and civil works as pertaining to the aforementioned power stations.
