Independent consultant specialising in computer applications for, mining, monitoring, surveying and geology. This specifically involved work on mineral deposit evaluation, presentation and analysis of geological data, geostatistics, borehole surveying, structural geological studies and LIDAR systems. It has also included the production of computer software packages for clients involved in mining coal, lead and zinc, gold, and other resources. These clients have been mining and exploration companies, consultancy firms and academic institutions.As well as producing bespoke software, he is also the author of several commercially available software products, such as, SiteMonitor, Downhole Explorer and Earthworks Present. Some of these applications were produced in collaboration with other companies, for example Datamine and 3D Laser Mapping Limited.

John Davis was appointed as the Technical Director at 3D Laser Mapping in February 2013 after a long working history with the company and as the developer of SiteMonitor4D - the leading slope monitoring solution. As Technical Director he had a senior role in overseeing many areas of the company’s operations and had particular responsibility for the application of LiDAR technology for the open pit mining industry.

Developer of SiteMonitor software for automatic change detection using Riegl 3D laser scanners and development of other LiDAR system. This work was undertaken in association with 3D Laser Mapping Ltd and John Davis also contributed to 3D Laser Mapping’s marketing, support and R&D activities in particular to the application of laser scanning technology in the mining industry.
