Managing and controlling all aspects of instrumentation maintenance, including day to day activities, turnaround management and execution and development of department long term maintenance strategies. More than doubled the Refinery instrumentation availability whilst remaining within the tight budget constraints and successfully motivated and improved department moral reflected in the improved availability of the instrumentation equipment.

Working within the Plant Integrity section advising and supporting shutdown activities and driving plant instrumentation reliability. Project instrumentation specification and procurement and provision of SmartPlant Instrumentation technical support.

Team member within the Project Management Team core group. The core group’s roles and responsibilities were to control the technical content and to ensure consistency of all the engineering companies working on the project. The incumbent’s primary function was the co-ordination and standardisation of the 13 INtools databases being used on the project. The responsibilities also included ensuring that the technical standards were updated where the standards had short comings. The resolving of technical queries from engineering teams as well as conducting audits on the engineering teams for technical compliance to the standards.

Instrument Section Lead for Control Systems Management Services. Scope included standard project engineering responsibilities as well as supervising design work and the control of engineering functions. A number of smaller Refinery prejects were implemented with a flag ship project of installing a new 12 pass 135 barrel per day Crude Furnace which included all the engineering and design facets for instrument and electrical as well as the installation and construction management. The project scope included the purchase and installation of a new Process Control Manager and Emergency Shutdown system.

Section Lead responsible for the engineering, design, procurement of materials including assembly of the Emergency Shutdown system. The development of the software for the system. Standard project management responsibilities were part of the scope including cost control and scheduling. All Emergency Shutdown system projects developed were for petrochemical installations.

Engineering and Reliability department. The time was utilised in assisting in the trouble shooting of problematic plant operation as well as the review and implementation of new technology.

Implementation of small Refinery projects both on the instrumentation and Electrical side as part of development phase of employment. During 1992 the incumbent took on a key roll in the Engen Reflex project in the upgrade of 3 existing compressors and the installation of two new compressors. The total scope included the implementation of approximately 1500 I/O. Project included the installation of the largest Emergency Shutdown system installed on site with a new Process Manager addition to the DCS system.

The work scope was the development of full Project Basic Engineering proposal packages for new plant expansions for both Instrumentation and Electrical Projects. The engineering involved specification of equipment and preliminary, scope development, scheduling, material take-offs, 10% estimating for implementation with preliminary sketches.
