I work for the Office of Health Systems Management in the New York state Department of Health researching and writing certificate of need reviews. I use SPARCS data and other NYSDOH databases and SAS to calculate current and projected need for healthcare facilities, as well as other information in support of Division activities.

I generate standard biweekly and monthly reports, manage data cleaning and perform ad-hoc data analyses in support of a FEMA-funded crisis counseling program for victims of Hurricane Sandy. I do most of my work in SAS and make heavy use of SQL.

Provide on the job professional assistance, advice and coaching to visually impaired clients in an assisted work program. Interface with clients' employers to troubleshoot problems and ensure that expectations are met on both sides. The overall goal is to successfully introduce the client into the workforce so that at the end of the six week program they will be able to find a job and work unassisted.

Worked on an original research project in collaboration with other undergraduates in the math department, which culminated in a presentation and a paper, to be published. The project, which was to implement and test a Boltzmann sampler for plane partitions, involved model development and analysis, simulation running and advanced statistical analysis. Weekly progress updates were required. The project demanded collaboration and self- motivation, as well as communication and quantitative skills.

Graded weekly assignments for Ordinary Differential Equations, in which approximately 20 students were enrolled.

Worked in a biochemical engineering lab studying transferrin targeting, blood-brain barrier and drug delivery systems using high-throughput techniques. Responsibilities primarily included hands-on lab work and data handling. Wrote a program in C++ which streamlined the targeting process by automatically identifying and tracking regions of interest on a protein, which were then synthesized and tested for affinity with transferrin. Worked extensively on statistical analysis and organization of results.

Provided overnight stocking, stock presentation, some store maintenance and customer service in a busy home improvement store.
