Working on The Age, Canberra Times and Sydney Morning Herald. Duties include fact checking, re-writing copy in accordance with title style, correcting spelling and grammar, and headline writing.

Promoted to this group role to lead the development of digital platforms. Two awards [Title of the Year, INML East Awards 2011 and Website of the Year, EDF Energy East of England Media Awards 2011]. Brand development through engagement with social media, creation of new commercial opportunities online. Key role in the selection of a new editorial system and major re-structuring of the newsroom, along with the development of a mobile and tablet strategy.

Responsible for implementing ‘digital first’ content strategy, and in mentoring and training staff. I also honed my layout and design skills and took full responsibility for the title in the absence of the editor. I attended public engagements on behalf of the newspaper and dealt with complaints.

Full responsibility for the editorial team of more than 70 people and guided the title successfully through a turbulent six-month period.

Full responsibility for the content of the Cambridge News printed pages and website, leading a team of 20 reporters. Exclusives and campaigns won many awards including Regional Press Awards Scoop of the Year 2008 (Meet City’s Sex Change Mayor and Mayoress) and EDF Energy East of England Media Awards Community Campaign of the Year 2007 (On the Buses). Led coverage of major news stories such as the Iraq War and the 7/7 London bombings.

I covered a wide range of stories in my first reporting role including major incidents, crime, court cases, inquests, royal visits, council meetings and general and local elections.
