Profile bio

About John Donaldson

Although I still call myself a biologist (PhD Zoology) and love to spend time in the field, my career has taken me down several other paths. I have spent more than 20 years as a manager of research teams with 15 years as part of the executive of SANBI. I have worked with governments, especially trying to strengthen science into policy, and dealing with tricky issues such as wildlife trade, biological invasions and genetically modified organisms. I have a long history of working with CITES, the Convention on Biodiversity and IUCN and, more recently, with IPBES (the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services). I remain passionate about the role of knowledge and evidence in good decision making and want to work more with transdisciplinary teams to resolve complex issues that continue to frustrate conservation and development initiatives.

Listed skills include Biodiversity, Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Issues, and 16 others.
