During my role as Director of Engineering at Jarvie Performance Castings, I developed a from-scratch additive manufacturing division to expand the capabilities of an already advanced aluminum foundry. Additive manufacturing plays a massive role in tooling design, prototyping, production, especially for the foundry industry. This allows all engineering to be done in-house, preventing outsourcing, decreasing cost, and increasing tooling turnaround. This was possible due to the printer arsenal I assembled, with capabilities of printing 24” x 24” x 40” with plans to go larger. With these capabilities established, I began reaching out to existing performance automotive casting customers to work with them to take their as-cast parts, design them for additive, and dramatically decrease weight while maintaining performance and usability of their intricate parts.

Established in February, 2022, Rust Belt Machinery is a provider of various used industrial machinery to consumers in mainly the Northeastern Ohio region. What started as a hobby with my dad, turned into a business opportunity and lifestyle.

I worked as a mechanical engineering intern within the Process Development Center, at Goodyear Headquarters in Akron, Ohio.

I worked with employees at this foundry to perfect Lock Out Tag Out forms. I would go into the various plants, take the necessary pictures, then use Brady Workstation to develop the official Lock Out Tag Out forms. I previously worked as a general laborer within this facility, so I am very familiar with the operation of this foundry, and all that is entailed with it.

My dad has a business that deals with buying and selling of industrial machinery. He deals with lathes, milling machines, both manual and CNC, and a variety of other products such as tooling, tools, and other related machines. I learned how to deal with customers by traveling to various swap meets and engine shows with him. This boosted my communication ability from a very young age, and it also taught me sales experience, which is key knowledge in terms of determining what a customer truly desires. I still partake in these roles often, which has sustained my knowledge qualities of those listed above.

I worked with CNC machines, reading drawings to ensure the accuracy of the programs the CNC’s were running, the accuracy of the tooling, and to check the parts to see if they were still within the manufacturer’s specifications throughout the machining process. I made deliveries of machined parts, as well as pickup of material from various plants within the area.

I worked for this company after my sophomore year of high school as a general laborer. Here, I learned the basics of how a foundry operates and all that is entailed with it. I worked with experienced employees and simply performed what they asked of me. I learned to pack molds, prep molds, and how the process of casting works. It was extremely interesting. I developed an even greater relationship with the President of the company, Corey Jarvis, so much so that he contacted me about an internship during the year of 2020, which my internship with Goodyear Headquarters was cancelled by Goodyear. I am very grateful for my time and experience gained here, for it has done nothing but good for my work ethic and experience.
