I first listened spellbound to Don as an idealistic second year Health Information Management student on my initial exciting trip to Melbourne for a conference in 1985.  Don spoke with passion, eloquence and scientific persuasion about the philosophy and costing practice of casemix.  He explained that it was more than just the 1975 United States funding, more than another micro economic reform agenda.  He made the maths real and told us to directly act for the patient.  He demanded our full intellectual commitment and accepted nothing less. Later Michelle Green and I were to be honoured to collaborate with him directly in our own work for the Private Hospitals Association of Victoria (1995 - 1997).  Don’s lectures laid down covering fire for our difficult strategic reform agenda across Melbourne.  There was rarely a vacant seat in our lecture theatres when the Professor spoke, and while the themes stayed mostly the same, the ever-changing nuances of his beautiful and natural ideas sounded just like growing up, listening to and loving Mozart.

He actually re-taught me to kick drop punts. This young person explained my lack of foot strength and immediately proceeded to give me the necessary skills to see them finally develop.Mr. Alan Joyce remains my role model, though. His 'speed for age' ratio is truly incredible and constantly receives high praise from our many fans and friends of 'The Old Farts’.We’re also experimenting with ultimate Frisbee in 2017-18, learning to throw forehand.
