Birch Telecom is a CLEC that competes against South Western Bell for local phone service to small-medium sized companies. Currently a developer for the IT Department. We’ve transitioned between fault management systems. Initially used Harris Corporation’s product, but now have one from Micromuse Corporation. Both systems allowed us to monitor the state of the voice and data devices that are on the customer network. The devices use SNMP v1 & v2 protocols and/or the TL1 protocol and send alerts to a centralized server. Both use a combination of proprietary software development environments as well as more standard development tools (Perl, Shell scripting and SQL) for creating applications to interpret the messages from these devices. New installation is done in a Change Management Control environment.

MultiService is a credit card company for the purchase of fuel and additional items pertaining to vehicles for entities maintaining a fleet of vehicles. Our UNIX system programming used PL/I for report generation. Database integration was done with C using embedded SQL, specifically Oracle Pro C for both external function calls or stand alone applications. Worked on a legacy migration project from a DEC system to a newer UNIX system. Participated in the project design, integration, testing, maintenance and installation of the new system while maintaining Y2K readiness. UNIX shell programming was used for menu driven scripts. Peer training for new individuals in the department. Worked under minimal supervision while maintaining close communications with all users. 24hour on call rotation within the department.

Entered the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program in Japan and functioned as a team teacher of English in seven Junior High Schools. Also delivered cross-cultural speeches in both Japanese and English.Location Noboribetsu, Hokkaido, Japan.

Was the International Department’s main troubleshooter as well as programmer to maintain the stability of the department. The projects were done in C++ and SmartWare.
