John was an early pioneer in the field of plant tissue culture (micropropagation). Building on extensive fruit & nut nursery and fruit & nut production experience, he developed methods to design and test medias, developing tc medias, allowing efficient production of walnut & Prunus species. The walnut tissue culture media he designed(DKW), is one of the most used media for tree micropropagation in the world, for walnut and many other species. Currently he consults (micropropagation & business) in California for Conception Nurseries, In Chile for Laboratorios Green Nova, and in South Africa for TCF / SAPO Trust. In the past he has consulted for Sierra Gold Nurseries, developed protocols for micropropagation of fruit and nut tree rootstocks; Intrexon Corporation, developing non-browning avocados and clonal avocado rootstock production. He has consulted for nursery production, micropropagation, and tree genetics in Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan), since 1996; and 2009 for DAI in a USAID funded project in Uzbekistan. In addition, he owns and operates an almond and walnut plantation. He has planted and developed intensive walnut and almond orchards.John is internationally recognized as a leader in the micropropagation and fruit & nut industries, published in many scientific journals. He has deep knowledge of the horticultural fruit & nut tree crop industries in the US and worldwide. He is involved in production farming (JJJ Farms, Inc.) (almond, walnut, apricot). He breeds unique, high flavor/brix apricots CandyCot® (CandyCot LLC). His family has deep multi generational roots in the California walnut & nursery industry. John has developed over the years extensive contacts and relationships worldwide, and especially with California, Oregon, and Washington nursery & nut tree industry leaders.
