In the case of I2CNER, the research is focussed on facilitating the hydrogen economy, as an alternative to fossil and nuclear fuels.I am working in Prof. Tatsumi Ishihara's group, with my research interests focussing on the properties of oxygen electrodes in solid oxide cells for high temperature electrolysis of water. These electrodes will be subjected to large biases during operation of the cell, and hence it is important to understand their behaviour under these conditions. This will be studied using a combination of electrochemical measurements, coupled with surface sensitive chemical analysis by SIMS, XPS and the emerging technique of high sensitivity Low Energy Ion Scattering (LEIS). Member of the SOFC group in the Department of Materials, supervised by Professor John Kilner.This work lead to several publications in international journals, contributions at major international conferences, and an invited seminar at an ASM chapter meeting

Demonstrating labs for undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses in the Department of Materials. Demonstrating experiments for departmental admissions events, as well as leading these events on occasion.
