Dr. John Arbo is an emergency medicine and critical care medicine trained physician. He currently serves as Medical Director and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Emergency Medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Joe R and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. Dr. Arbo received his B.A. from Northwestern University, M.A. from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, and M.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, NY. Dr. Arbo completed residency in emergency medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia and Cornell in 2010, fellowship in critical care medicine at Stanford University Medical Center in 2012. He is a former Fulbright Scholar, a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) and member of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) and Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). He is an American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) oral board examiner and serves on the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Critical Care Medicine board exam item-writing task force. Dr. Arbo is Editor-in-Chief of the textbook Decision Making in Emergency Critical Care and has a research interest in hemodynamic monitoring in patients with critical illness. He is a graduate of the Greater New York Hospital Association Clinical Quality Fellowship Program (CQFP) and the Patient Safety Executive Training Program at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). Dr. Arbo's academic interests include ICU and ED operations, disaster medicine, and patient safety. Dr. Arbo is an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He serves with the 103rd Airlift Wing, Medical Group (MDG), Bradley Air National Guard Base, East Granby Connecticut.
