John served clients in virtually every area of Opportune's service to energy clients, including:Long-term assistance to the CRO of a major US utility, developing core risk management policies and processes. In addition to a 5-year roadmap, John led in the development of the utility's first coal position report, developed an innovative position report for coal transport contracts, mentored a senior committee charged with oversight of all commodities, and developed the framework for a consolidating trading floor for all commodities.As the debtor's financial advisor, John led a large team in a complex Chapter 11 case involving shelf and deep water oil and gas assets burdened by a complex portfolio of term overrides and net profits interests, representing one of the largest case in the Southern District of Texas in several years.On behalf of a lender, John evaluated the operations of energy and agriculture traders, to assess the traders' risk profile, trading policies and related limits, organizational design, risk control and use of systems.

Over 15 years in public accounting, initially serving fast-growing E&P and oilfield services companies from Arthur Andersen's New Orleans and Lafayette offices. During the downturn in the oil industry in the 1980's, transferred to Andersen's Houston office in the energy division in 1997, serving international clients such as Texaco, Total and others. During the early 1990's, also developed expertise in serving crude oil traders, which led to numerous consulting projects for Andersen clients, helping companies adapt to the emerging natural gas marketing environment, following gas deregulation.
