Joined the Group Executive Committee of Brown Shipley, following its acquisition of Henry Cooke Group plc, of which I was an Executive Director and Head of Fund Management.Charged with integrating the institutional investment management activities of Brown Shipley with those of its then parent, Kreditbank Luxembourg and with KBL's other private banking affiliates across Europe.A member of the KBL Group Investment Committee, as the UK representative, setting investment policy for clients of its pan-European private banking network.Made lots of good friends, enjoyed the status, pay and perks, but couldn't help thinking that something was missing. Left in 2002 to establish the all employee-owned Castlefield with some close colleagues. The rest is history....

Joined with an existing interest in managing money for charities and developed this activity for Henry Cooke, Lumsden plc (the group's investment management arm). Gradually expanded the role to take over the management of group pensions and collective funds, forming an integrated fund management activity. One of the first UK businesses to convert its range of Unit Trusts to an umbrella OEIC. Assumed responsibility for setting the investment strategy for clients of the entire business, including the substantial private client department. Recruited and managed a 'buy side' research team, one or two of whom having gone on to high profile positions in well known investment houses.Finally involved in presenting the business for sale to Brown Shipley, as an inevitable if regrettable consequence of a lack of significant employee influence amongst then shareholders.
