Formerly, the world’s second largest publically owned shipping company, with sites in the UK, Athens, Manila and the USA. I am responsible for the company’s global database environment, incorporating 30+ database instances and all associated application interfaces and data feeds.Key responsibilities• Installation, patching & daily maintenance of Oracle 10g / 11G databases running on Solaris, Linux and Windows.• Backup and Recovery of all production database environments according to identified requirements (RMAN) .• Planning and Implementation of both local and remote Database Disaster Recovery across all sites (Data Guard / DB Visit). Test DR activations carried out periodically. • Performance Monitoring of all database instances (Grid Control, Confio Ignite, custom scripts). Carry out performance tuning and fault analysis as required inc any necessary escalations this may involve (external product technical support etc.).• Refreshing, maintaining and supporting database development environments. Supporting the development team with database relates issues inc. schema design, code optimisation and general performance assistance (sql, pl/sql and dba support).• Provide strategic direction for the company database infrastructure inc evaluating new technology, licensing and capacity planning.• Reviewer / Approver of all database related Change Management requests.• Provide training and support to backup dba (USA based).• Provide specialist application support to both internal and external bodies (e.g. knowledge of application data structures and multi-system data interfaces).• First contact point for Oracle eBusiness Suite (R12) issues and responsibility for UK payroll interfaces for this system.

My primary responsibility was the Support and on-going development of the company’s internal Oracle Forms applications (sql , pl/sql). I also undertook routine database administration tasks including backup & recovery, security and database creation etc.Worked with the web development team to create ad-hoc applications including an incident capture system.

Main specialities included Unix shell scripting (I wrote a test harness and a suite of stress testing utilities), Oracle SQL & PL/SQL, perl.A key achievement was the writing of data cleansing tools (unix script, pl/sql) for a multi-system communication hub, which was part of an Oracle eBusiness implementation (covering 20 disparate systems).
