Profile bio

About John Eicher

Currently, I am a Director within the Human Genetics and Genomics group at GSK. My role is to perform human genetic analyses in neurosciences, sensory, and muscular traits to drive target identification, to translate these findings into the lab for target validation, and to inform clinical development. My collaborative work across different biology, clinical, and platform teams has helped fuel target entry and progression through the pipeline. Previously, I was a Senior Scientist at Merck using human genetics to investigate neurodegenerative diseases. My role involved performing human genetics studies including whole exome sequencing and GWAS, translating human genetic findings into wet lab evaluation, and leading early development & validation of neurodegeneration targets based in human genetics.Prior to entering industry, I completed a post-doctoral fellowship with the Framingham Heart Study at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute within the National Institutes of Health. There, I examined the genetics of complex cardiovascular traits and eQTL/transcriptomic analyses. I completed my PhD in Genetics at Yale University performing GWAS analyses of cognitive, language, and neuroimaging traits. Through my research career in industry, government, and academia, I have co-authored over 50 articles and participated in numerous multicenter, international collaborations.Specialties: Human genetics, target identification & validation, neurodegeneration, molecular genetics, genetic epidemiologyFull publication list: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=Eicher+JDI also was a member of the Training & Development Committee for the American Society of Human Genetics. Our committee's goals were to help the trainees in our professional society by organizing career development events, developing new strategies to engage the trainee membership, and providing more resources for graduate students and fellows as they start their careers.

Listed skills include Genetics, Data Analysis, Biostatistics, Molecular Genetics, and 13 others.
