Most recently, I served as the Deputy Commanding General for the Army National Guard at U.S. Army Futures Command. During my Army career, I have accumulated over 27 years service with the Virginia Army National Guard following 8 years of active duty service in the U.S. Army. I commanded at every level in the Army from M-1A1 Tank Platoon leader up to Commanding General of the 29th Infantry Division, one of the Army's 19 combat divisions comprising eight brigades and over 16,000 Soldiers. During this period, I deployed overseas twice to Iraq and the Arabian Gulf Region. During my first deployment, I served as a battalion commander and led an 800 Soldier infantry battalion in combat operations during the Iraqi Surge Campaign of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM in 2007-2008. During my second deployment, I served as Deputy Commanding General - Operations for the 29th Infantry Division leading a Joint Task Force in the Arabian Gulf Region for OPERATION SPARTAN SHIELD. I led over 18,000 service men and women with the objective of defeating ISIS and countering malign Iranian influence in the region. As Virginia Guardsman, I also led an 800 Soldier Task Force during OPERATION VIGILANT RELIEF (Hurricane Katrina Response) in 2005.
