Provider Of Local Solutions To Road Safety Concerns Specialising In The Heavy Vehicle Industry.

I formed this company to enable the growth of Safe Freight Networks across Australia. In 2017 I was awarded funding through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to establish 20 new Safe Freight Networks in Australia. These were established using a similar place-based model as the mult-award-winning Gippsland Safe Freight Network where I remain as the executive officer. As a avid Bike Rider I have a keen interest in evidence based cycling safety and promote young people's participation in safe cycling practices through Bike Ed programs and advocacy for safety off-road cycling infrastructure.

I managed 30 Volunteer Mentors as well as recruited and managed 30 young learner drivers. I was responsible for all aspects of the program including funding applications and acquittal processes. In addition I advocated for road safety for young people.

Gippsland Victoria Australia

I facilitate this Network across Gippsland as well as Cardinia and Casey. Consisting of five chapters across the region.In 2015 this program won the National Award for Local Government Excellence in Road Safety. I ran this company and provided training advice to customers. I also provided direct training in areas of First Aid, specialising in Remote Area First Aid in far North West Queensland and Northern Territory. Customers include Parraway Pastoral, Georgina Pastoral Company, AACo and RFDS.This company has developed a specialty to for effectively training Ringers and Stockmen/women.

Bairnsdale Secondary Collage

This project supported year 7 and year 8 students from across all State Government Schools in the Gippsland Region. The project provided a 10 day wilderness experience which used Family Therapy principles developed by Micheal White. It then provided up to two years follow-up support for each student. The program was specifically for students who displayed extreme behavioral challenges for schools. The program was de-funded by the State in 2005 and was then passed on to Berry Street.

Morwell Victoria Australia

Case Manager of Mental Health support service provided supported accommodation across Gippsland. Developed important partnerships with clinical and non-clinical support agencies across the region. Developed self-governance concepts with users of the services to provide strong policy voice for people with mental illness. Developed GARSS into a RTO so it could deliver link TAFE accredited courses for those wishing to return to study or career training.

I was asked to develop a program with young people who had a diagnosed mental illness which would enable them to link back into mainstream education. Through the development of partnerships with the VET sector as well as the Education Department I was able to attract funds to provide Certificate IV training in Workplace Education. The program was expanded to include all clients of the agency and in 1997 won the international award for innovation in the support of people with Mental Illness.

I managed all operations involving Training, Youth Support Services and Youth Engagement and Policy development at Latrobe "Shire" during amalgamation into a single council. Unfortunately the administrators could not see the need to remain engaged in youth and employment services and handed over 1 million dollars of community support funding back to the commonwealth. After this youth services were no longer developed with stakeholders and went to council focused rather than community focused model. Hence when the opportunity presented itself to work with an agency that remained focused on clients I moved on.

Development of youth service policy in conjunction with Stakeholders and Council. Develop partnerships with relevant community and government sectors for implementation of relevant programs. Write and manage funding proposals and project management. With a large number of young people dying on roads in the area I worked with the Police to develop some local driver safety initiatives including a safe and legal space for young people in the area to ride their motorbikes - now known as the Blue Rock Motocross Track. Also worked with those young people who had been long term unemployed and gained funds from the federal Government to run the most successful Job Skills program in the country with over 90% retained in full time employment following the program.

Churchill

Generalist youth worker in Churchill at a time of great change in the town with the development of the Glendonald Estate being filled with people moving from public high density housing in Melbourne to a rural community. Some young people found the transition very difficult. Young women in particular as did those young people who identified as gay. I facilitated the first safe space for gay young men to meet and support each other at a time when AIDS was causing a lot of fear in the community. I also worked with LCH to enable a needle exchange program in the town. I worked with the community nurses in providing support for those young people in the area dying of AIDS.
